FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is my donation tax deductible?
Absolutely! We're a registered 501(c)(3) organization in good standing with the IRS so your donation is fully tax deductible.
Why can't patients receive treatment at a local hospital closer to their home?
Thats a great question. Heart failure is a progressive disease with no cure. The patients we help are experiencing advanced heart failure and require a treatment called a VAD, or Ventricular Assist Device, or a heart transplant. Only 3% of American hospitals are capable of providing VADs or heart transplants, so most patients must travel to receive one.
Don't patients stay in the hospital during treatment? Why do they need lodging?
Both the patient receiving a VAD or heart transplant and their caregiver are required to stay within 60 miles of the hospital treating them for 6-8 weeks after they're discharged. Patients must agree to these important terms to receive life saving treatment. The costs of lodging can easily exceed $1,000 a week and are not covered by insurance.
How does my $25 a month make an actual difference, then?
Through relationships made with local organizations, we're able to provide housing for patients who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford it at the rate of $25 a night. By giving in the amount of $25 a month, you will personally be providing one night of stay for a family in need every month and playing a pivotal role in preventing medical homelessness.
